yeah, we did. she worried about me a lot, i think. i'm not an easy daughter to have.
kieren was their favourite, though. they wouldn't say that, but it's true. he was my fave too, so i get it. you still remember your parents? their faces?
My mum passed when I was six and I never knew my dad, so no.
I remember my gran, though, sort of. More an idea of her, my visual memory's shit. Kind hands with sore knuckles, big stern shoulders, moko kauae, wild hair - not a single grey, which she said was god's gift but in retrospect was probably the blessing of black dye.
I studied biomed, went into cryonics, did a lot of eco-activism. The Earth cried out in her last days and I listened, and she — connected with me, kind of. Then when everyone died in the bombs, I had the power to bring them back. You do a large scale miracle like that you kind of end up in charge. Plus, the resurrection changed people, they forgot a lot, so I had this swathe of population and no existing preconceptions or structure. Figured hey, you know what? Capitalism was kind of bullshit. Global poverty, racism, nationalism, fossil fuels... we don't really need that stuff, we can do better. So I jury-rigged something new.
no capitalism and yet GOD EMPEROR skeleton dad? interesting, interesting. better man than me though. i’d have absolutely told everyone i made them out of playdough and sheep guts.
jesus it’s grim though. you know there’s a limitless number of realities out there? and we’re all kind of fucking up in most of them? you’d have liked home, i think. sometimes i wonder if the dead came back because we had fucked it all up enough that something decided to fight back.
It's not like I invented my godhood — I could turn the sun off and on like a lightbulb, I resurrected millions of people from death, I can't die. And I had stuff that needed doing, so I put systems in place to facilitate that power.
But yeah, there was shit going down after death in my world that even I didn't know about. Maybe yours, too.
well, we’re going to pierce billy’s nips because he’s been extra good this year. which reminds me - do you reckon you could speed their healing along? i don’t trust him not to get in a fight and fuck them up.
— do they do christmas here though? i haven’t really thought about it????

i've been wondering - is it rude to ask how a kiwi bloke called john became god?

I don't know if anybody else's ever has. But it's not something I want to advertise, so I haven't exactly asked around. I need more data.
