[ the electricity is still out, which means bellamy can't quite google this. he'd been in the middle of reading some useless blog posts about bands of the 1990s. none of them were familiar to him, and their band names were strange. of course, when he wanted to click a link, the internet had shat itself. ]
Did you even read my message? I did nothing. It's the boys in the back street you should be questioning.
[ if bellamy knew what was going on with jem, he still would've sent this message. a distraction is sometimes the best way someone can help a friend in their time of need. ]
[ the year makes little sense to bellamy, but the moment she mentions music, he gets it. he's learning all the bands, all the singers and writers who had existed long before the ark had been constructed. he hadn't been so sure if backstreet had been their proper name. he can't really remember any of the artists he had heard played sometimes on the ark. ]
they were okay! i think i liked them when i was in primary 5? i started listening to heavy metal when i started secondary school. were you listening to pop before the power went out?
I have no idea what you just said, but it sounds very you.
I was. Watching some documentary or music video. I wasn't paying attention until they played a catchy song. I thought maybe I could find it at the library, but they don't really have anything about boys who were in the back streets or whatever in the catalogue.
okay i am going to explain the english school system to you, because i like you bellamy. pay attenion, nerd. you do nursery school until you're 4, right? then when you're 5 you start year one at primary school, until you're 11 at year 6. then you started year 7/secondary school until you're 16 or 18, depending on if you stick around for sixth form.
oh my god. when the power comes back on, i'll help you find them on youtube? they had this amazing tune called backstreet's back, the video is iconic.
[ but he appreciates it. they hadn't exactly had that while on the ark. learning bits and pieces about earth, even if it isn't technically his earth, is enlightening. ]
[ there's a reason he had come to her, after all. even though she confuses him a lot, she's patient when it comes to him asking for clarification or an explanation on the stuff other people already know. ]
